Route small towns of the Empordà

We leave Baix Empordà Burricleta Center to go to Gualta, we don’t enter, but we pass along the side of the Romanesque Daró bridge, which witnessed many events when it was the only way of crossing the Daró river. We follow the river going near to Serra de Daró and then we head to the small village of Fonolleres, where there is a Gothic church dedicated to San Cristobal.

Following the route we find Matajudaica, known for its yellow spring flowers in its surroundings. And ridding by ecobike we approach to a new landscape, such a beautiful village: Ullastret. The medieval structure is predominant at Ullastret, formed by small and steep narrow streets, surrounded by well preserved walls. But this is not the only one: Palau-sator is located in the center of the plain and maintains the urban look typical from medieval age, with a walled well defined, dominated by a lofty tower that was to be part of an ancient castle , Tower of the Hours, that we will leave to go to the small Fontclara and then we pass in front of the Fontanilles, a town located on the top of two hills. At the north side you can see a church, and at the top of the sud side there are the ruins of the old medieval castle, known as the 'Castellot'.

And now, you realize that we are coming back and Gualta is wating for you, the last village that we outline passing along the upper part of the village and we enter to watch the old flour mill seventeenth century. Finally we return, walking through the paths of the plain, with a dash of inspiration that Josep Pla look for when he visited the Empordanet.
